Course Description

Covers the use of information technology in business organizations. Includes introduction to hardware, software, databases, system development, and tools that businesses use for communication and collaboration. Explores the value of ethical conduct in the business environment and the impact of technology on firms, industry and society. Recommended: Basic computing skills, familiarity with word processing and presentation software. Audit available. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to: 

  • Describe how organizations utilize information technology to collect, analyze, and store data and information.
  • Discuss how technology supports business planning, operations, marketing, strategy, and decision-making.
  • Identify potential threats to privacy and information security associated with business use of information technology.
  • Analyze how businesses use the Internet, social media, and technology to connect with customers and employees, market and deliver their products, and create competitive advantage.
  • Explain how business use of information technology poses ethical and societal challenges.
