Course Description

Covers production, processing, and testing of soil, aggregate and concrete in civil engineering construction. Includes quality assurance concepts, measurements and calculations, terminology, and random sampling. Focuses on testing procedures common to construction in the northwest United States. Prerequisites: PHY 201 and MTH 111 or any MTH course for which MTH 111 is a prerequisite. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Collect and prepare soil samples for observation and testing using client and industry specifications.
  2. Perform and analyze soil tests.
  3. Describe the physical characteristics of soil, nature of soil deposits, engineering properties of soils and soil classifications.
  4. Perform common concrete testing.
