Course Description

Introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the Internet and other computer networks. Covers the fundamentals to build simple Local Area Networks (LANs), perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes. Part one of a three-course sequence to prepare for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching industry certification. Prerequisites: CIS 179 or instructor permission. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course prepares students to sit for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching industry certification.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Describe fundamental terminology and concepts of computer networks.
  • Perform basic tasks for routers and switches using Cisco devices.
