Course Description

Covers the clinical application of equipment, maintenance and best practices in a dental office. Visits to public health organizations and/or guest speakers reinforces the community-based learning project. Prerequisites: Acceptance in the Dental Assisting Program.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Explain responsible, safe, and effective methods for the disposal of hazardous waste following best practices.

  2. Describe the importance of individual involvement in Public Health Dentistry and the impact it has on the community.

  3. Produce a presentation about the community-based learning project.

  4. Employ collaborative skills and teamwork with classmates during  presentation development.

  5. Identify proper equipment maintenance techniques and best practices as they relate to the dental office.
