Course Description

Continues the examination of the philosophy and principles of dental radiography with review and preparation for national and state certification examinations. Prerequisites: Acceptance in the Dental Assisting program, and DA 120. Corequisites: DA 123.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Describe techniques for extraoral radiography.

  2. Identify technique errors and how to correct these errors.

  3. Demonstrate patient management and education to include pediatric and special needs patients.

  4. Identify legal issues for the dental radiographer.

  5. Describe the principle ALARA and how if relates to prescribing dental images.

  6. Successfully complete the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Examination.
