Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

Competently expose full mouth series, panoramic, bitewings, and occlusal images.

Safely expose patient images in a PCC clinical setting.

Efficiently and safely expose a variety of diagnostic dental images in a workplace setting.

Demonstrate proper infection control protocols.

That every students is competent at exposing images at industry standard level.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be evaluated on their performance in their internship sites on the radiography skills, knowledge and professionalism expected of a dental assistant. Attendance will also be considered as part of the grade.
Satisfy the competency requirement for certification in Oregon by exposing and processing Full mouth Series (FMS) and Bitewings (BWXs) on patients in a safe and effective manner. (The number of total patients needed to become competent enough to quality for Oregon Certification will be dependent on student's level of competency at the end of the term. Some students may need to take more images to attain appropriate competency level.

COMPETENCIES:

Place and expose images with increasing proficiency and efficiency on both manikins and patients.

Monitor and maintain the equipment in an orderly manner.

Demonstrate consistent application of the principles of safety.

Demonstrate courtesy and comply with ethical, legal and professional standards when working with patients in both the campus clinical lab and at the internship site.

Expose images on patients seeking treatment at the internship site as directed and under supervision of the sponsoring dentist.

Evaluate image quality.

Research new techniques within the field of Radiology and write a research paper.
