Course Description

Covers the application of integrated multidisciplinary learning in the dental hygiene clinical practice. Emphasizes critical thinking for evidence-based treatment planning and incorporates time management and quality assessment principles into clinic management. Focuses on developing skills at the beginner clinician level, with a focus on periodontal patients. Prerequisites: DH 106. Corequisites: DH 201 and DH 204S.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Employ efficient data collection and assessment at the beginner clinician level.
  2. Recognize and address special considerations in the provision of dental hygiene care.
  3. Implement the dental hygiene process of care on periodontally involved patients.
  4. Formulate patient-centered treatment plans independently.
  5. Perform preventive and therapeutic hand and ultrasonic debridement at the beginner clinician level.
  6. Utilize pain management in the provision of dental hygiene care.
