Course Description

Introduces methods of transferring power through mechanical powertrains. Covers differentials, brakes, final drives, and under carriages. Requires a dealer letter indicating secured internship at a participating Caterpillar Dealership. Prerequisites: DST 116.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • Disassemble, assemble, and adjust various powertrain components using appropriate service literature and following designated procedures.
  • Identify and explain the powertrain components and theory of operation of Caterpilllar final drives, undercarriages, brakes, ground engaging, and differential systems.

Course Activities and Design

This is an outcome-based course utilizing a lecture / lab format. This course includes videos, assignments, demonstrations, lectures, and hands on learning.   Course will be taught using Caterpillar equipment and curriculum.
