Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
Specialty practical cases will be included with routine laboratory projects. Prerequisites: Completion of DT 204 and DT 270 with a grade of C or better, or permission of instructor.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Use porcelain veneer and resins to produce finished crowns and bridgework using patient models.
- Demonstrate adaptation and problem solving techniques to solve problems in occlusion, tooth shape and alignment, and periodontal conditions on specialty practical cases.
- Use learned skills to build professional relationships with dentists as partners within healthcare teams.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
1. Evaluation of completed laboratory projects at any step of the fabrication process as well as at the completion of the project.
2. Students will also be assessed on speed and efficiency and lab safety compliance.
3. Weekly waxing quizzes on specialty practical cases.

THEMES, CONCEPTS AND ISSUES:
1. PFM Framework design
2. Wax patterns
3. Metal casting fabrication
4. Porcelain injection casting
5. Use of resins
6. Use of various porcelain veneers
7. Application techniques.
8. Characterization
9. Efficiency in movement, space management and time management.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
1. Fabricate and evaluate resin veneers on the metal frameworks created in DT 204.
2. Fabricate a metal framework for porcelain veneer procedures.
3. Demonstrate the application of porcelain veneer to crowns and bridges.
4. Discuss the use of, and demonstrate the fabrication of all-porcelain jacket crowns and tooth veneers.
5. Select three specialty practical cases and design and fabricate porcelain fixed prosthetic devices for each case.
6. Consistently apply commercial laboratory safety standards and infection control procedures in the dental laboratory
