Course Description

Fundamentals of hydronics systems related to electrical controls and fluid flow. Includes burner control system, schematic diagrams, distribution systems, heat emitters, radiant floor heating, expansion tanks, entrained air, and auxiliary heat loads. Prerequisites: FMT 122 or TE 9161. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course will provide detailed opertion of boilers and burner control systems. The service mechanic will be able to use control system schematic diagrams to troubleshoot control systems. The control discussed will be those directly connected to the boiler and burner.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Describe boiler and burner limit and operating controls; their use and limitations.
  • Describe primary combustion controls and their functions.
  • Describe programming flame safeguard controls; their functions and operation.
  • Demonstrate ability to read control schematic diagrams and troubleshoot control systems.
  • Demonstrate ability to wire a simple control system on a trainer describe its operation.

Course Activities and Design

This course is primarily lecture/discussion with audio visual materials and the possibility of field trips.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Procedures will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be referenced on the class syllabus. Assessment will be based on attendance, participation, personal improvement, homework, quizzes, and the final examination.
