Course Description

Introduces professional software for digital image editing, photo manipulation, and layer compositing of raster art. Emphasizes file formats, techniques, and tools used by graphic designers. Prerequisites: GD 116, GD 122, GD 140, GD 151. Prerequisites/concurrent: GD 182.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Set up documents to specifications required for professional quality output.
  • Utilize color systems, screen resolution and file formats defined by industry standards.
  • Navigate and manipulate the software interface using professional practices and procedures.
  • Apply professional methods of image selection, editing and layer management.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Successfully designed and output printed projects and a skills test will be the major criteria for evaluation. 

  • Additional assessment may include quizzes, in-class exercises, research assignments and attendance.
