Course Description

Examines and develops skills for functioning in teams and providing training for healthcare staff and consumers. Covers project and change management concepts in relation to health information. Prerequisites: HIM 121, HIM 141, HIM 182, HIM 281, HIM 283. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Organize and facilitate meetings including the use of presentation tools.
  2. Explain the methodology of training and development.
  3. Use project management methodologies in team assignment.
  4. Apply the fundamentals of team leadership.
  5. Examine behaviors that embrace cultural diversity.
  6. Explain the impact of change on people, processes and systems when implementing changes.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will demonstrate these learning outcomes by these tasks conducted individually and in cooperation with outer students:

  1. Answer theoretical and application questions on information covered in the lecture, graded assignments and reading assignments.
  2. Prepare information for health information training sessions for health care professionals and for the consumer.
  3. Participate in teams to prepare training materials on how to perform assigned tasks within a health information management department..
