Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

Produce a meaning-based, simultaneous interpretation of the main points and supporting details of a given source message.

Calculate the accuracy of an interpretation.

Discuss the logistics, best practices, and special considerations of specialized settings.
Course Activities and Design
Students will perform simultaneous interpretations on topics common in legal, medical, performance, and mental health settings. Students will discuss and demonstrate best practices for each setting. Students will continue to demonstrate self-assessment and peer-review techniques to further identify patterns in their own skill development.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be evaluated through assignments, in-class performance, quizzes, and formal evaluations of recorded ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL interpretations. Self-assessment and peer-assessments will be used to evaluate student skill development. Students will be assessed on their ability to produce a grammatically correct, simultaneous, meaning-based interpretation of a source message.
