Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

Consecutively interpret the main points and supporting details of a given source message into the target language.

Produce a meaning-based, simultaneous interpretation of the main points of a given source message into the target language.

Practice professionalism within the interpreting profession, including appropriate attire and demeanor.

Conduct self-assessment and peer-assessment in a professional and respectful manner.
Course Activities and Design
Class time will be spent discussing and applying interpreting techniques. Course activities include interpretations, self-analysis, and peer review assignments.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be evaluated through assignments, in-class performance, quizzes, and formal evaluations of recorded ASL-to-English interpretations and recorded English-to-ASL interpretations. Students will be assessed on their ability to produce a grammatically correct, simultaneous, meaning-based interpretation of the main points of a source message

- Achieving dynamic equivalence
- Separating meaning and form
- Application of theoretical models of interpreting
- Identification of the main points of a given source message
