Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

Produce a meaning-based simultaneous interpretation of the main points and some details of a given source message.

Apply new English and ASL vocabulary to an interpretation.

Identify current skill level through self-assessment and peer-assessment.
Course Activities and Design
Class time will be spent discussing and apply interpreting skills. Students will perform simultaneous interpretations. Students will continue to practice concentration, anticipation, prediction, use of prior knowledge and new information, and memory techniques. Students will explore aspects of a successful interpretation and will continue to apply self-assessment and peer-review techniques to further skill development.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be evaluated through assignments, in-class performance, quizzes, and formal evaluations of recorded ASL-to-English interpretations and recorded English-to-ASL interpretations. Students will be assessed on their ability to produce a grammatically correct, simultaneous, meaning-based interpretation of the main points with some supporting details of a source message.

This course will cover the following topics:
- Simultaneous interpreting
- Achieving dynamic equivalence
- Clarification and correction techniques during interpreting
- Analysis of context, purpose, and register of both English and ASL texts
- Introduction to interpreting observations in the VRS setting
