Course Description

Provides opportunity for sharing and discussing continuing education experiences and to prepare for certification exams. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program and MLT 282. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

The student continues to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitude required to function in a professional manner in the clinical laboratory setting as a health care professional. The importance of continuing education as a means for professional growth is emphasized. Clinical laboratory sciences are reviewed in preparation for taking certification MLT board examination.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Use an understanding of theoretical and procedural materials to prepare for board certification examinations
  • Engage in continuing education activities for professional growth
  • Prepare and update a professional portfolio

Course Activities and Design

The class is presented in a hybrid format: lecture/discussions and audio-visual presentations are presented in a web based instructional media, and examinations are conducted on campus. Students have the opportunity to share their continuing education activities with each other in a formal online discussion setting. The student prepares a clinical laboratory experience related portfolio and is also required to take several subject specific comprehensive examinations.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Assessment methods may include portfolio evaluation, written examinations, written assignments, discussion activities and class attendance and participation.
