Course Description
Introduces the concepts, techniques, materials, devices, and software of stop motion animation. Explores and creates stop motion animations, using multiple materials, such as clay, armatures, puppets, 3D printers, cameras, and industry-standard production and post-production software, in solo and group projects. Prerequisites: MM 112, MM 235, and (WR 115 and RD 115) or IRW 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Identify and demonstrate the 12 principles of animation and how those are manifested in stop motion animation.
- Demonstrate an understanding of character design, cinematography, lighting, and animation skills.
- Demonstrate industry-standard production and post-production skills in software applications and hardware tools for stop motion animation production.
- Discuss the history of stop motion animation and Portland’s role in it.
