Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the basic techniques needed to play the game of golf.
- Apply fundamental rules and basic strategies and tactics relating to the game of golf.
- Explain the fitness, health and wellness benefits associated with playing the game of golf.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Specific grading policies will be discussed at the first class meeting and presented in a handout. Students will be evaluated on the following
basis:
Attendance- double emphasis on class tournament
Active participation
Completion of all assigned matches
Improvement; measured weekly
Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)
- Rules and etiquette of the game.
- Short game, long game, putting, pitching, chipping, sand play.
- Golfing equipment.
- Opportunities for practice and play.
- Various drills and practice games.
- Course-play management.
- Health and fitness benefits of golf.
- Principles of golf swing mechanics, and ball flight.
- Proper warm up and stretching for golf.
- Social aspects of golf.
COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:
1) Perform a variety of drills and practice games such as: chip to the circle, circle putting, 4 hole putting, up-and-down, elephant swing, best seat in the house, and more.
2) Demonstrate proper warm-up and stretching.
3) Interact during practice and play in a group setting.
4) Demonstrate short game improvement by practical assessment.
5) Participate in lecture, skill demonstrations, and video sessions to learn more about swing mechanics, course-play management, rules, and etiquette.
6) Demonstrate proper mechanics for chipping, pitching, driving, and putting.
