Course Description

Provides an opportunity to co-design an independent project associated with the current mainstage theatre production. Includes an assigned role within the production team which may be off stage, front of house, or backstage. Learning contract with theatre arts instructor covering the course expectations required. Prerequisites: Instructor approval required. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Projects in Theatre is designed to allow a student to do an in-depth
study of some aspect of a theatre. The student will be required to
develop his/her own contracts with an assigned instructor. This
course carries 1 credit hour contracted with the supervising
instructor.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Prepare for and demonstrate proficiency in an assigned backstage role in a scheduled PCC Theatre Arts mainstage production.
  • Meet learning outcomes specific to this project as mutually agreed upon by the student and instructor in advance of the production through a written learning contract, and as appropriate to the credit awarded for this course.

Course Activities and Design

Student will be assigned a role in the creation of a theatre production and be guided through the undertaking of the responsibilities involved with the instructor and other production leaders. 

As details of these roles may vary from production to production, the student will be asked to co-create a contract with the instructor that will be used to assess the work at the end of the production and term.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Graded  assignments (attendance, participation, note taking, assigned readings, tasks, paperwork).

Address collaboration skills with team and self in production post-mortem.

Self-assessment with mentor.
