Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
This is an outcome based course utilizing a lecture/lab format. This course includes classroom discussions, videos and lab demonstrations of technical skills. Course outcomes will include: safety, theoretical concepts, layout, fabrication, oxy-fuel cutting, carbon arc gouging and flux cored arc welding.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Function safely in a welding shop and a shipyard environment.
- Fabricate and weld complex joint assemblies with gas shielded flux cored arc welding (FCAW-G).
- Use air carbon arc cutting (CAC-A) according to NAVSEA welding code standards.
- Assess weld quality in accordance with NAVSEA welding code standards.
Course Activities and Design
This will be the third course in the Maritime Ship Fitting Welding sequence. Each concept will be delivered in a combination of lectures and videos followed by practical demonstrations and hands-on application in the welding lab.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
The student will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate the development of course outcomes. The methods of assessment may include one or more of the following: oral or written examinations, quizzes, written assignments, visual inspection and welding tests.
