Course Description
Covers gas metal arc welding pulse (GMAW-P) techniques to produce code-quality welds. Introduces weld testing and the use of inspection hand tools. Prerequisites: WLD 197 or department permission.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Function safely in a welding shop and a shipyard environment.
- Produce code-quality welds using the GMAW-P process in all positions.
- Assess weld quality through the application of visual examination principles and practices in accordance with industry-standard codes.
- Use hand inspection tools to determine code compliance.
Aspirational Goals
Each concept will be delivered via a combination of lectures and videos followed by practical demonstrations and hands-on application in the welding lab.

- Recognize and report dangerous electrical and air/gas hose connections

- Understand sitemaps and muster stations.

- Demonstrate correct starting, stopping and restarting techniques
- Demonstrate proper bead placement
- Interpret blueprints to accurately lay out, prepare, and assemble weld joints.
- Interpret lines, symbols, views and notes
- Lay out material per specifications
- Use the PAC cutting process to cut material to specific dimensions
- Assemble project per specifications and to Maritime standards
- Weld common joint assemblies with the GMAW-P according to AWS D1.2 Welding Code standards..
