Program Description
The class will start with a case study concerning bicycle transportation in Portland, including safety, infrastructure, parking, equity, affordability and new ridership.? Students will compile a research report on a specific topic in advance of the overseas program component.? After examining issues from a local perspective, the course will travel to Copenhagen, Denmark to explore the same issues comparatively from Denmark.? ?Students will observe, take notes, contribute to a shared archive of photos, compare, and submit a revised version of initial research report. When they return they will display their photos in a gallery.

- meet with local families to learn more about the bicycle lifestyle
- explore Copenhagen’s acclaimed restaurants and prepare your own food in dorm style kitchens
- stay in dormitory style, university housing
- contribute journal entries and photos of Copenhagen that will be displayed in a local gallery upon return to Portland
- visit local amusement parks, natural areas, and historic sights.
