Photo Contest
The PCC Ed Abroad Photo Contest allows returned students to share their experiences through photography and writing. Enjoy these amazing images captured by PCC students during their study abroad program!
The Summer 2024 Photo Contest winners are below.
Photo Contest Rules and Submission Instructions
- One photo submission per student per category
- The same photo may not be submitted to more than one category
- Participants are only eligible to win one prize
- Photos must be accompanied by a title and brief description (1-3 sentences) of the photo’s significance to the student
- Student must have participated on a 2024 PCC study abroad program
- EAO reserves the right to use the photo for marketing purposes (we will give photo credit)
- Photos must be the property of the contest participant and must not violate any intellectual property rights
Submit your photos?by emailing the Ed Abroad Office (studyabroad@pcc.edu):
- In the subject line, write: Photo Contest Submission
- In the email body, please include: your name, contest category, photo title, and photo description. All photos must be accompanied by a title and brief description (1-3 sentences) of the photo’s significance to the student.
- Please attach the photo in JPG or PNG format.
- Deadline to submit photos is Friday, October 4, 2024

Embracing New Cultures
- 2024 Winner: “going down the street” by Alfie Padilla.
Description: A stylish individual rides a scooter down a busy tourist street. This photo captures both a local and tourists in a small tourist town in the Czech Republic. It’s cinematic and dreamy, just like the town it was taken in. But it also captures a mundanity of actually living in a picturesque place like that. I also think this image is so cinematic. - 2024 Runner Up: “When in Amsterdam” by Darian Ralstin.
Description: “This was a great time getting out of our comfort zones. Apart from Sam playing a Dutch milk maiden, we are all wearing gender-bending costumes, which was very in line with our Human Sexuality class.”

Self Discovery
- 2024 Winner: “Self Portrait” by Maya Primich.
Description: “Here is a self portrait that I had taken in the mirror while exploring the main castle in Cesky Krumlov. We had finished our tour of the worlds oldest baroque theater and it was almost time to wrap up with our adventure in this little (but majorly) historic corner of the world; and soon after we’d be closing in on our trip to Prague as a whole. I felt like since we’d been taking so many photos, people were starting to see the lens of my camera more than my actual face so this portrait feels like a fitting representation of who I was during this trip.”

- 2024 Runner up:? “metal man metal phone” by Alfie Padilla.
Description: “A man dressed in heavy metal style clothes checks his phone in Cesky Krumlov. This picture depicts the juxtaposition of old architecture and contemporary technology. The same theme is present in this older gentle person staring at a smartphone. In some ways the photo feels like a mirror into my future. I think the melancholic nature of the photo also speaks to the journey I was on in Prague.”

Ed Abroad Office Choice Award
- “To Capture Beauty at All Viewpoints” by Alexandra Hawley.
Description: “This image is from my personal viewpoint while looking at the chandelier in the tomb of St. Wenceslaus in the St. Vitus Cathedral which is inside of Prague Castle! This may not be a self portrait but it does fit self discovery as I was able to discover that I love snapping shots like this, so these beautiful moments that I don’t always notice can be captured forever and I can remember how beautiful my level of sight really can be!!”
