Road to Success: That’s Where You’ll Find Me
The 2024 PCC Foundation gala, “Road to Success,” raised over $393,000 for student success.
On Saturday, April 27, Portland Community College Foundation hosted its annual fundraiser, “Road to Success” presented by Comcast.
This year’s Oz-themed event began with a high-energy performance of “Ease on Down the Road” from The Wiz by PCC President Dr. Adrien L. Bennings accompanied by the Jefferson Dancers. Emcee Poison Waters entertained throughout the night. The program highlighted three current PCC students and their stories of finding success at PCC. The college honored Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Senator Michael Dembrow, and Former Director Denise Frisbee with the 2024 Patron Awards. Additionally, the Jefferson Dancers showcased a student-choreographed piece titled “Peaks and Valleys”.
There were nearly 350 attendees at the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Convention Center and in total, the event raised over $393,000 for student success, exceeding its $350,000 goal.
Dr. Bennings highlighted the important work of the Foundation saying, “Our Foundation has provided $2.2 million in scholarships to 1,500 students this year, opening doors that might otherwise have remained closed. We have set a bold goal — to meet 100% of unmet student needs by 2072. Imagine a future where every student who wants to attend college can do so without financial barriers.”
Through the funds raised at the Road to Success, the Foundation will be able to award even more scholarships for the upcoming academic year, which is vital after receiving more scholarship applications than ever before.
“We are thrilled that we were able to raise these funds to support students,” said Christina Kline, PCC Foundation’s executive director. “We are incredibly grateful for the community’s investment in and support of equitable student success.”
Presenting sponsor, Comcast’s senior director of external affairs, Tim Goodman, said, “We at Comcast are doing our utmost to ensure that all students are able to follow their dreams down the Road to Success, and we are happy to align our efforts with Portland Community College to support in ways that make the biggest impact.”
