Cascade Gallery presents recent work and a new digital video and sound installation by Andy Behrle that challenge our senses of gravity and time. Behrle’s work focuses on moving images of running water—sometimes collected digitally in nature, sometimes emanating from inside devices that filter light through moving water. In this installation, created specifically for Portland Community College’s Cascade Gallery, visitors will navigate physically through projected video footage collected both above and below the surface of the Columbia River. Born from the artist’s study of the complicated history, politics, economy, and ecology of the Columbia River, Silenced Echoes attempts to offer a balanced contemplation of these tensions. By directing the camera’s eye to nuances of water flowing in unexpected ways, the exhibition acknowledges that both place and time are fluid.
