Shane (Seven) Lanes | “searching the fluid self”
This media file is attached to: Drawing
In this work I explored the energetic possibilities of graphite through hatching and cross hatching. I applied make-up in a feminine way while keeping the other half of my face in what I consider masculine form. this drawing took about 7 hours staring into a metal serving tray with barely a reflective advantage. This self portrait was very uncomfortable for me in the process of rendering how I saw myself as well as felt. I didn't want to submit it for class but I did. I'm almost 50 and have been queer since a child. This work represents that life of awkwardness growing up in northern Minnesota, I believe.
