Mexican printmaker Nuria Montiel will be joined by Alberto McKelligan Hernández, assistant professor of art history at Portland State University, to discuss the history of political printmaking in Mexico, as well as the contributions of women artists to this rich artistic tradition. The conversation will also highlight Montiel’s projects, such as the participatory Mobile Press (2010-ongoing), in which the artist collaborates with members of the public to create artistic and activist prints.

The event anticipates Montiel’s exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, “Mundos Posibles / Possible Worlds,” which will be open to the public from October 12, 2023, to December 2, 2023.
