Xiaolin Jiang | “Crumbling”
This media file is attached to: 2nd Annual One College Virtual Art Student Exhibition
This gouache painting is about the huge earthquake in 2008 in Szechuan province in China, which I experienced in my hometown of Chengdu, 140km away from the epicenter. I was awoken by the intense shaking - seeing, hearing, and feeling the apartment violently rumble for that long made me think it must be end of the world - some monster coming from another planet, and that I was going to die. Fortunately, Chengdu survived, none of my family and friends got hurt. I appreciate life more from that moment, and always remember that fear.
