About Phlebotomy Technician training
The Phlebotomy Technician program is a non-credit certificate program housed within the Healthcare and Emergency Professions pathway of Portland Community College.
Other health programs within this pathway include: AAPC Professional Medical Coding, Patient Access Specialist, Sterile Processing Technician, Optician Assistant Training, Herbal Medicine, Ayurveda Yoga, Clinical Research, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Medical Assisting. Many Phlebotomy students go on to pursue additional programs such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Nursing, and Emergency Medical Services.
Mission and values
The mission of the Phlebotomy Technician program is to offer high-quality, student-centered training aimed at preparing graduates to successfully pass the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board Certification Exam (ASCP) and support a thriving career in the field. Our program ensures comprehensive training through hands-on, real-world experience, including a guaranteed 100 hours of clinical practicum, designed to maximize each student’s potential.
The program offers students of all ages, races, cultures, economic levels, and previous educational experience opportunities for personal growth and attainment of their professional goals. Through effective teaching and student support, we strive to prepare our students for success as individuals and healthcare professionals.

The program prioritizes student engagement, upholds mutual respect among all program participants, and is dedicated to laying the groundwork for student success. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience, rigorous theoretical education, and high-quality clinical practicum.
Goals and objectives
The goal of the Phlebotomy Technician program is to provide a rigorous entry-level professional preparatory experience, equipping individuals to become integral members of healthcare teams. This is achieved through comprehensive academic studies, hands-on training, and clinical partnerships within the community. The program focuses on developing essential skills including communication, professionalism, critical thinking, and attitude. The aim of the program is to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive as competent and confident professionals in the healthcare field.
Accreditation

The Portland Community College Phlebotomy program is accredited by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board. It adheres closely to Route 2 standards and is designed to deliver high-quality education to students.

- HIPAA and OSHA compliance modules: $30
