Job Summary

Under the direction of management, performs a variety of professional, technical and analytical classification and compensation activities, provides equitable and consistent compensation consultation, and supports the enhancement of classification and compensation structures and policies. The position also prepares data and writes job descriptions, creates reports, and identifies trends related to classification and compensation practices and outcomes. This role works with a diverse group of individuals at all levels in the organization.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Reviews new and existing classifications to ensure jobs are appropriately classified and graded. Modifies and creates descriptions to accurately reflect current roles, responsibilities and requirements.
  2. Provides equitable and consistent compensation consultation and supports the enhancement of classification and compensation structures and policies.
  3. Reviews and recommends salary placements for new hires. Conducts new hire and promotional pay equity assessments with consistency.
  4. Uses published or conducts ad hoc surveys to obtain and analyze market pay rates. Makes recommendations on appropriate pay grade level. Reviews recommendations within PCC context for internal equity.
  5. Reviews employees’ request for classification review and makes classification/pay level determinations. Communicates with stakeholders regarding the result of compensation work.
  6. Responds to employee classification appeals; organizes and participates in the formal appeal hearings process.
  7. Reviews jobs for reorganizations, contractual reviews and projects, including both job audit and evaluation. Documents job-specific findings and recommendations to contribute to a comprehensive project report.
  8. Working within PCC systems and procedures, ensures all aspects of job creation are addressed in a timely manner.
  9. Researches situations related to aspects of compensation to provide clarity for resolution in consideration of contract provisions, historical practices, similar situations, etc.

  11. Prepares data, creates reports, and identifies trends related to classification and compensation practices and outcomes.
  12. Participates in implementing annual increases for the College including auditing, updating employee records and employee communications.
  13. Provides data input to annual salary surveys.
  14. Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or other discipline directly related to the position. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Two years of experience performing compensation and data analysis.

Knowledge and Skills

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office environment, with interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is need to perform the job.
