Job Summary

The Environmental Center Coordinator is responsible for providing coordination and oversight for activities associated with the Environmental Center focusing on sustainability. Incumbents in this classification work independently in developing and implementing programs or activities for students and staff using the Center. The Coordinator directs the resources and activities for the Environmental Center including grant activities, student leadership development, community outreach, and assists with the development of faculty curricular projects related to the Sylvania Learning Garden.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates and facilitates activities for the Environmental Resource Center on campus. Coordinates with counterparts at other campuses and centers when prioritizing annual campus events to minimize cross-campus event conflicts and to maximize use of campus resources. Prioritizes and plans annual calendar of events to include lectures, demonstrations and workshops. 欧洲杯决赛竞猜app_欧洲杯足球网-投注|官网s and implements marketing strategies to champion awareness of services provided by the Center.
  2. Engages College committees (e.g., the district Sustainable Practices and Resources Council, the district PSC Transportation and Recycling Subcommittees, the Sylvania Campus Service Learning groups), faculty (e.g., through the Teaching Learning Center), staff and students (including ASPCC) to develop support for the Environmental Center’s long-term goals and strategies. Participates in committee meetings, including district meetings as directed by manager, outreach activities and facilitates the development of one course per year utilizing Center resources.
  3. Designs and facilitates programs and workshops focused on sustainability, specifically, in such areas as the Sylvania Learning Garden. Delivers presentations to classes and businesses as requested. May teach class(es) as assigned. Assists with the development of educational materials that correlate with classroom curriculum.
  4. Assists students in connecting studies with sustainability or environmental programs. Fosters relationships with community and state agencies as well as other college resources. Refers students to available services for further assistance.
  5. Directs volunteers and may hire, train, evaluate and discharge student workers. Processes appropriate paperwork.
  6. Monitors assigned budget. Plans and reconciles college expenditures; allocates and disburses funds; justifies expenditures.
  7. Supports grant seeking efforts of faculty by providing historical information about the Center and its activities.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is primarily performed in an office environment.

Occasional lifting of materials that may weigh up to 50 pounds may occur. Some extended periods of sitting at a computer is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Life, Physical or Social Sciences or related field. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Demonstrated experience in sustainability, environmental sciences or renewable resources for at least one year.
