Job Summary

Provides assistance/support to clients and to professional staff in the Employment and Training Programs.? Work assignments vary depending on the level of job within the job family.? Interpersonal contacts may include clients, staff, other PCC personnel, employers, and other outside organizations or personnel.? Skills/abilities necessary in varying degrees depending on area of responsibility include:? Interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, organization skills, telephone skills, computer skills, presentation skills, coaching skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the ability to deal with a very diverse ethnic and socio-economic group of clients.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Resource Support Assistant I
  1. Acquires job skills and learns policies and procedures to complete routine tasks.
  2. Works on assignments that are routine in nature where limited judgment is required.
  3. Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.
  4. Zero to one year of related experience.
  5. Entry level for employees with a high school diploma or equivalent.
Resource Support Assistant II
  1. Acquires job skills and learns policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks.
  2. Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature where ability to recognize deviation from accepted practice is required.
  3. Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments.
  4. High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of related experience or Associate’s degree in job-related area.
  5. Intermediate level for this job family.? May be entry level for those with an Associate’s degree.
Resource Support Assistant III
  1. Applies job skills and policies and procedures to complete a wide range of difficult tasks.
  2. Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and in making routine recommendations.
  3. Normally receives no instruction on routine work and general instructions on new assignments.
  4. Two years of related experience plus one year of college-level course work in job-related area.? Experience performing the duties of the job for one year may substitute for the college-level course work.
  5. Senior level for this job family; fully competent.
Resource Support Assistant IV
  1. Uses ability as a skilled specialist in accordance with policies and procedures to complete complex tasks in creative and effective ways.
  2. Works on assignments that are complex in nature where initiative and considerable judgment are required in resolving problems and in making recommendations.
  3. May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other non-exempt personnel.
  4. Three years of related experience plus Associate’s degree in job-related area.? Experience performing the duties of the job may substitute for the Associate’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  5. Highly skilled level for this job family.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

The following tasks and responsibilities are typical of positions in this job family and vary significantly from department to department and from position to position.

  1. Coordinates activities for area of responsibility.
  2. Responds to questions in person and over the telephone; provides assistance to students, staff, and the public.
  3. Interviews, coaches, and assists program participants and assigned case load, if any.
  4. May administer, score, and explain various assessment tests.
  5. May provide case management to clients.
  6. Performs filing, data entry, report generation, and record maintenance and ensures all paperwork is complete.
  7. Reviews records for compliance with program guidelines.
  8. Conducts program presentations/facility tours.
  9. Answers telephones; takes and distributes messages/mail.
  10. Performs typing and word processing various materials.
  11. Maintains equipment; orders supplies as needed.
  12. May direct the work of student interns and office support staff.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office setting.? May be exposed to a video display for long periods.? Work pressure and disturbances of work flow typically occur.? May need to travel to various facilities.

Learned physical skill may be necessary to perform keyboarding.? Occasional lifting, guiding, and/or carrying of light-weight materials or equipment may be required.? May be necessary to stand or walk on a routine basis.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and varied experience/educational requirements depending on the level of job within the job family.? Requires keyboarding, filing, math, and/or ten-key skills.? A working knowledge of word processing, data base, and/or spreadsheet applications is required.? Must have good interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.? Must have the ability to maintain accurate records, use standard office machines such as fax, telephone, and copy machines, convey a variety of information to clients, staff, and the public.
