Athletics Director
Class: Management| Exempt status: Exempt | Grade: L
Under the direction of management, the Athletics Director supervises the day-to-day operations of athletic facilities at the College. Plans, organizes, and manages all intercollegiate and club athletics to support the mission of the College and supervises technical/support and student staff. This position provides leadership and management in developing, implementing, and evaluating an annual operational plan and a longer-term business plan to enhance student athlete retention, community relationships, staff development, marketing and public relations, Title IX compliance, scholarship fund development, and facilities.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees and leads athletic fundraising and engagement initiatives. Collaborates with relevant College employees to develop partnerships and reach internal goals for athletic sponsorships and gifts. Leverages alumni, fans and students to promote community engagement, increase game attendance, and build donor networks.
- Manages, recruits, mentors and develops coaching staff who field competitive teams, attains the College’s student success and academic performance goals, and enables an engaged, well-rounded student athletic experience.
- Markets, organizes, schedules, conducts, and evaluates athletic events and activities including intercollegiate and club events. Ensures facilities are set up for events within appropriate timeframes. Evaluates programs and events for future improvements and/or modifications.
- Prepares, distributes, and monitors athletic letters of intent in accordance with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) regulations and College availability. Processes student athletic tuition assistance forms and documents.
- Supervises technical/support and student staff. Hires, evaluates, trains, disciplines and recommends dismissal of staff as necessary. Maintains an effective staff capable of administering the athletic department’s operations including, but not limited to personnel and budget.
- Prepares and administers assigned budget; reviews and approves expenditures; submits justifications for budget items; analyzes, monitors, and controls expenditures.
- Oversees and monitors facility maintenance and custodial operations, issues, and upkeep to ensure safety and aesthetics of facilities.
- Obtains requisitions for services, supplies, equipment, and materials required to ensure efficient operations in day-to-day activities. Monitors and maintains inventory.
- Provides training and supervision to temporary and/or contract employees to meet the needs of the facility and programs. Serves as a liaison with external contractors and vendors.
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains a variety of reports and documents related to assigned programs and associated activities, including financial reports that reflect program revenue, expenses, and participant counts. Reviews the effectiveness of the athletics organization and adjusts for performance expectations and College-wide efficiency.
- Ensures compliance with Title IX regulations and requirements. Maintains compliance with additional relevant governmental regulations and with the College, NWAC, and conference policies, rules and regulations.
- Serves as an athletic commissioner to the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWACC). Provides support and mentorship to NWAC eligible student-athletes.
- Manages all game and travel scheduling, athletic rosters, and other administrative duties as needed.
- Promotes an equitable and diverse athletic environment and culture. Ensures the academic success of student athletes through a method of tracking and evaluating progress.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
Work is generally performed in both an office and outdoor environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Frequent evening and weekend work. Frequent reaching, sitting, walking, standing, climbing, lifting, stooping, or carrying of equipment and materials may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Athletics or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis. Three years progressively responsible experience running an athletic program, including two years of lead or supervisory experience. NWAC experience is required. Position may require First Aid Certification, CPR Certification, and AED Certification.
