Nature and Scope of Work

Under the direction of management, the Online Learning Coaching Coordinator is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and coordinating coaching services that improve student success for online students. Builds community, identifies coaching area needs, and develops and leads initiatives that support online students. Leads casual staff and student workers.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs, implements, and coordinates coaching services for online students, including underserved populations. Identifies coaching area needs, student populations in need, coach coverage, and service quality.
  2. Recruits, monitors and leads the work of casual staff and student workers. Hires and trains students and casual workers. Participates in performance evaluations and provides input related to performance professional staff as appropriate. Performs coaching, disciplinary actions, and termination limited to student and casual staff only. Processes personnel paperwork, monitors time, and acknowledges timesheets for student and casual employees only.
  3. Monitors and maintains the budget for casual and student staff.
  4. Attends conferences and trainings, and researches best practices, policies and regulations, broader social issues, and current theory toward developing, improving, and implementing student coaching services.

  6. Creates and implements a monitoring and tracking mechanism for the online student coaching program that analyzes usage data to evaluate efficacy of services.
  7. Participates in a variety of meetings, committees, or other related groups to communicate information regarding coaching services, coaching areas of opportunity and other pertinent information related to the online student coaching mission and activities. Represents online student and department needs on a variety of college committees, task forces, and work groups.
  8. Maintains student-facing web content and services in collaboration with Online Learning staff, IT, and Marketing. Monitors and uses social media tools to promote services and respond to concerns.
  9. Assists in the development of policies, practices, and standards which facilitate effective use of online learning.
  10. Leads special projects as assigned.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-by-year basis. Two years of experience developing online student advising services or online student coaching services. Two years of experience developing and creating instructional and informational material for the internet and using computers and software to communicate with students.
