Nature and Scope of Work
The Video Producer is responsible for producing video content which serves the entire PCC district. The incumbent is responsible for designing, coordinating, directing, shooting and editing educational, instructional, promotional, and other video material/content delivered via the Web, cable TV, DVD, and portable devices. The incumbent oversees the work of a professional video production and post-production crew. Assists faculty and students in learning video production.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Meets with faculty, staff and administrators (“clients”) to evaluate, discuss, and/or propose requests and ideas for video projects. Creates and evaluates proposals, outlines and scripts for clarity of purpose, consideration of audience, and appropriate creative and technical approach. Estimates production requirements (including equipment and crew), provides budget estimates, and evaluates copyright, clearance and release requirements. Meets with clients thru all phases of each project to obtain client input, to solve problems, and to keep projects on schedule.
- Oversees the work of professional video production staff/crew, including editors, directors of photography/videography, videographers, sound recordists, grips and production assistants. Assigns projects and positions to crew members. Provides creative and technical guidance and direction and tracks hours worked. Guides and oversees the work of cooperative education students and student workers. When appropriate performs the work of editor, director of photography/videography, videographer, and sound recordist.
- Directs video productions ranging from single-camera productions to multi-camera field and studio productions. This includes interacting with and guiding clients, subjects/talent and others through the production process. Operates and/or directs the operation of professional cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment and related equipment to effectively record a variety of program materials. Recommends minor and/or major production changes to obtain the most appropriate and effective materials.
- During post production, edits and/or directs the editing of recorded video, audio, and other materials to meet time, aesthetic, ethical and broadcast quality standards. Creates and/or guides the creation of graphics and soundtracks. Operates and/or oversees the operation of a variety of post production equipment including nonlinear computer-based editing systems, tapeless devices, and video/audio interfaces. Operates and/or oversees the use of a variety of post production software applications for video editing, audio editing, DVD authoring, graphics creation, compositing, compressing, encoding/transcoding and captioning. Coordinates the archiving of video assets for short and long term storage and access.
- Maintains and/or oversees the maintenance and organization of video production equipment and post production equipment and software. Researches, requests and implements new video production technologies.
- In advance of video productions, coordinates production crew, production schedule, locations, and equipment. Ensures proper operation of equipment required and tests or oversees the testing of cameras, tapeless media, microphones, lights, video monitors and related equipment.
- Oversees the preparation, duplication, and delivery of video and related materials for a variety of distribution channels including the internet, DVD, PCC’s cable channel, and mobile devices.
- Independently and in coordination with other PCC staff, participates in workshops and one-on-one sessions to teach video production to staff, faculty and students.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is typically performed in an office, studio or field production environment. Movement of equipment and set placement requires the ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and climb. Ability to lift and place equipment that may weight up to 50 pounds. Producing videos requires the ability to stand and move around for extended periods of time.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Film/Video Production, Communications, Journalism, Television Production, Media Arts or related area. Experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
Two years of experience producing educational or documentary videos in a collaborative environment is required which includes organizing, managing and scheduling production crews and planning and executing client projects within budget.
