- Job Summary
The Media Services Technician is responsible for providing a wide range of hands-on technical assistance in the operation of multimedia and distance education equipment, including resolving connectivity issues, troubleshooting audio visual equipment, and working with large group events.? The incumbent provides customer service to diverse groups including students, faculty, vendors and the general public with different levels of technology skills.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides technical support to diverse client groups.
- Performs standard equipment setup including computers, data projectors and other multimedia equipment.
- Troubleshoots equipment, software, hardware and networking issues as required both remotely and at physical locations.
- Installs classroom technology equipment in accordance with college standards.
- Diagnoses routine equipment malfunctions and provides users with problem resolution, or escalates as needed.
- Maintains equipment, such as laptops, cameras, projectors and presentation systems as appropriate to the area of assignment.
- Trains instructors, staff and student workers in the proper use of various types of instructional media equipment and demonstrates the operation of such equipment.
- Oversees video equipment storage and security; monitors and ensures the availability, circulation, security and proper maintenance of portable multimedia equipment.
- Remains current on new technology, methodology and equipment.
- Hires work study students and trains casuals in job responsibilities.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Media Services:
- Monitors email requests to the department and answers phones and forwards appropriately.
- Participates in event set-up and tear down and is present at events to monitor equipment and ensures things work properly during the event.
- Organizes equipment storage area, maintains inventory, assists with equipment check out for staff members and assembles carts with necessary equipment for use during the day.
- Performs maintenance cleaning of rooms, podiums and equipment.? Maintains clickers used in classrooms and during meetings.
Master Control:
- Sets up Internet Video Conferencing (IVC) Classrooms
- Schedules and supports video conferencing meetings

- Provides large event support
- Collaborates with classroom tech team and Distance Learning (DL)
- Edits productions
- Provides server application management daily
- Monitors email requests for media production projects, discusses creative aspects of production requests with clients, develops production project outlines, etc.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed both in office and classroom settings. Load, unload and move equipment using carts and hand trucks. Regular transporting of audio visual equipment/materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds for troubleshooting, repairs, etc.? Prolonged standing may be required.? Occasional non-standard working hours are needed to cover special group events.? Incumbents may need to respond to situations at any location in the district requiring the ability to drive and the use of a personal vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a media related field. Examples of media related fields can include media services, computer applications, multi-media, broadcast production, web streaming, and live sound mixing.? Experience performing the duties described above may substitute for degree on a year-for-year basis. Two years of experience in a related field.
Must possess knowledge of current computer hardware, operating systems, client/server and network technologies. ?The above-mentioned qualifications could be demonstrated by possessing one or more of the following certifications:
- A+
- Net+
- Microsoft related
- CTS
- Extron, Crestron, AMX related certifications
- Polycom or Cisco certifications for videoconferencing
- Completion of PCC multi-media program
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Digital media, such as EDID-HDCP
- Technology used in system integration
- Visual communication and its use in education and understanding of classroom technology and troubleshooting problems in the classroom
- Servers and web based software applications
- Equipment used in video technology and audio as it relates to video (HD)
- Basic networking understanding of IP routing and function
- Strong familiarity with audio equipment used for live events
- Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere for editing are used for some areas
