Job Summary
Performs various semi-skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment and minor construction work in the basic trades such as carpentry and minor plumbing and electrical to ensure that facilities are properly maintained and meet College standards.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the construction, installation and maintenance of roofs, drains, furniture, fences, cabinets, shelving, chalkboards and bulletin boards.
- Installs and repairs fixtures, signage, doors and window hardware and glass, floor and ceiling tiles, partitions and locks. Repairs electrical appliances and light fixtures.
- Assists painter in preparing surfaces and finishing a variety of equipment, furniture and college facility physical structure.
- Maintains a working knowledge of materials, systems and code requirements related to maintenance of College facilities.
- Operates a variety of power equipment including table saws, drills, skill saws and other maintenance tools and equipment.
- Cleans and maintains HVAC grills, diffusers and air takes.
- Performs routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication on motors, fans and air compressors, water pumps, air conditioning systems and plumbing fixtures.
- Adjusts and changes belts in HVAC units. Replaces air filters. Maintains cleanliness of all mechanical rooms.
- Responds to college emergencies and closures including adverse weather to be certain that all facilities are protected and remain operational. Assists with tasks required in preparing to open campuses after a closure including snow and ice removal, systems and equipment checks and start-up operations as assigned.
- Knows and understands all safety procedures of the college.
- Operates a college vehicle and is responsible for maintenance and the safe operation of that vehicle.
- Maintains appropriate records and reports.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; two years experience in general facilities maintenance work. Must have a valid driver’s license for operation of a motor vehicle in Oregon and possess an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge of:
Tools, materials and procedures used in commercial/institutional maintenance and repair such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical and HVAC; Record keeping techniques; health and safety regulations.
Ability to:
Use a variety of tools and power equipment; lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs; maintain routine records and reports; make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately; work independently with minimal supervision; understand and follow oral and written directions; work from blue prints, shop drawings and sketches; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and is exposed to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, noise and temperature extremes.
Frequent bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders and reaching below and above shoulders while performing job duties. Wrist, hand and finger dexterity to operate various equipment and materials.
