Job Summary
Responsible for developing, monitoring, coordinating and implementing the district-wide shuttle schedule between campuses for optimum service and efficiency. The position has lead responsibilities over the Transit Service Operators and Van Drivers. Distributes and tracks permits sold to staff, faculty and students. Other responsibilities include developing and presenting alternative transportation education programs to students, faculty and staff.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews and revises transportation schedules to ensure increased efficiency and to reduce costs. Maintains driver accountability throughout the district.? Conducts inspections, assesses training needs and schedules for appropriate action.
- Leads, directs, guides and monitors the work of Transit Service Operators, Van Drivers and casual relief drivers. Responds to requests for assistance by troubleshooting and providing solutions to driver-related problems. Assesses training needs and facilitates on-going training to ensure maximum effectiveness. Orients staff to department policies and procedures. Provides input on staff evaluations.
- Resolves operational problems related to shuttles and sale of parking permits. Investigates situations and complaints, and recommends solutions.
- Provides assistance in the planning, research and development, and implementation of department policies and procedures.
- Works with the department’s TDM specialist and representatives from the community and governmental agencies and staff to develop, recommend, advocate and promote alternative means of transportation for students, faculty and staff including but not limited to: public transportation, college shuttle systems, carpooling and rideshare matching, biking and walking, and off-site parking. May conduct college-wide transportation fairs and/or other special events pertaining to department operations.
- Coordinates special projects to accomplish department objectives and other tasks requested by the department manager.
- Collects, analyzes and reports statistical data regarding the operation of the department; makes planning recommendations based upon statistical reporting.
- Reviews video surveillance and investigates operational complaints. Performs accident investigations as needed.
- Assists other department staff in the parking office as needed.
- Maintains current knowledge of federal and state guidelines, college and departmental policies and procedures.
- Orders and distributes to departments TriMet transit passes for GED? students.
- May be required to drive bus shuttles on a backup basis, which may result in working occasional overtime and filling in on a last minute notice.
- Provides backup for the Operations Assistant/Parking Transportation Services.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work pressures, disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are accepted and occur with varied frequency. Exposure to inclement weather may occur when patrolling college roadway and parking lots.
Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles within the State of Oregon and Washington and possess an acceptable driving record including five years of accident free driving, with no recent moving violations. Must obtain passenger and air brake enforcements within 7 days of hire. Must be able to obtain basic first aid/CPR certification within three months of employment. Must be able to pass a personal and criminal history background check. Must pass a physical examination and submit to periodic drug testing.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of college level course work in the area of public administration, business administration, urban or transportation planning or related field. Related experience may substitute for the college level coursework on a year-for-year basis. Three years of parking and/or transportation experience, one of which must have been in a key administrative support role.
