Job Summary
Responsible for the maintenance of all parking department vehicles, collection and deposit of all monies from parking permit dispensers, repair of parking permit dispensers and general office duties. Shares “lead responsibilities with the Lead Transportation Specialist over the Transit Service Operators and Van Drivers.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads, directs, guides and monitors the work of Transit Service Operators, Van Drivers and casual relief drivers. Responds to request for assistance by troubleshooting and providing solutions to driver related problems. Assesses training needs and facilitates on-going training to ensure maximum effectiveness. Orients staff to department policies and procedures. Provides input on staff evaluations.
- Performs weekly collection of monies from parking permit dispenser machines district-wide. Collects all money and makes deposits at each campus business office. Maintains accounting log books for dispensers and repairs and maintains parking permit dispenser machines.
- Coordinates the maintenance of all parking department vehicles with outside vendors. Performs basic repairs as needed. Ensures that buses and vans are maintained and cleaned.
- May be required to drive bus shuttles on a backup basis, which may result in working occasional overtime and filling in with limited notice.
- Trains new Transit Service Operators and casual parking employees regarding department operations, policy and procedure including but not limited to the proper issuance of parking citations and maintenance of shuttle records.
- Provides parking and transportation information to students, staff and faculty via telephone and in person.
- Assists other department staff in the parking office as needed including providing backup support during absences, which includes issuing parking permits, adjusting parking citations including removing fines from the Banner system and performs collections related activities.
- Opens and distributes mail, answers multi-line phones, takes and distributes messages, maintain office forms and files.
- May be required to perform first aid assistance and/or CPR.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of experience working in a customer service related position, including one year of lead experience. Mechanical skills required sufficient for repairing parking permit dispensers and minor repair of vehicles.
Must maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s license for operation of motor vehicles within the State of Oregon and possess an acceptable driving record including five years of accident free driving, with no recent moving violations. Must obtain passenger and air brake enforcements within 7 days of hire. Must be able to obtain basic first aid/CPR certification within three months of employment. Must be able to pass a personal and criminal history background check. Must pass a physical examination and submit to periodic drug testing.
Knowledge of:
Personal computers and associated standard office software including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications; customer service standards and principles; mathematical skill; basic mathematical calculations; and recordkeeping procedures.
Ability to:
Identify mechanical problems or vehicle malfunctions, make minor repairs or arrange for service with outside vendors; shift priorities with minimal notice; develop and maintain effective working relationships; effectively evaluate a situation or issue and develop sound working solutions; communicate effectively orally and in writing; provide effective and responsive service to department customers and contacts; perform all assigned tasks efficiently and accurately and create and maintain accurate records; possess and demonstrate the required level of proficiency in desktop computers and other assigned software or electronic resources, including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications; learn and utilize Banner or other information systems and databases; and create and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Job duties are performed both in an office environment and outside when collecting monies from parking permit dispensers and repairing dispensers as required. The Operations Assistant may be required to carry a pager and must be able to shift priorities quickly when asked to provide backup support to bus shuttle drivers. Learned physical skill required to perform keyboarding and manual dexterity required to perform parking permit dispenser and basic vehicle repair. Heavy lifting may sometimes be required (e.g., moving furniture).
