Job Summary

Under the direction of the Campus President or Vice President this position works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility for providing strategic leadership in the planning, implementing, improving, and evaluating of educational and/or student service programs and promoting operational improvements. Responds to inquiries from College departments, educational institutions, the community, students, and/or external agencies and supervises managers, faculty, academic professionals, classified, technical/support, and student staff.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Dean has overall responsibility and accountability for providing leadership in long-range planning, program development, problem solving, and staff development in Instruction, Student 欧洲杯决赛竞猜app_欧洲杯足球网-投注|官网ment, Student Services or Academic Support programs.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises managers, division faculty, academic professionals, classified staff, technical/support, and/or student staff. Evaluates and oversees the development of professional development plans and goals for assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with good management practices, District policies, and collective bargaining agreements. Hires, evaluates, trains, disciplines and recommends dismissal of staff as necessary.
  • Provides primary leadership in guiding, planning, implementing, evaluating, and modifying programs, processes, and operations related to assigned areas of responsibility; interprets and applies federal and state mandated guidelines. Plans, implements, administers, and evaluates related programs, projects, and services impacting the college.
  • Establishes, monitors, evaluates, and modifies processes, procedures, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the College’s mission, values, goals, and objectives, as well as all local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Monitors programs to ensure compliance with applicable accrediting bodies.
  • Serves as a liaison to applicable external agencies and industries, community partners, the general public, internal departments, and applicable educational institutions representing the College with respect to academic and/or student service programs, processes, and procedures.
  • Participates on various committees, including a variety of leadership groups and teams.
  • Provides leadership in problem-solving and promoting operational systems improvement.

  • Leads the development and management of budgets in assigned areas of responsibility; strategizes, anticipates, and secures resources for programs and operational improvements.
  • Advises and responds to questions from College departments and external agencies regarding complex issues or policies impacting assigned programs and services. Investigates, addresses and resolves problems, grievances, and complaints related to conduct issues of faculty and/or students.
  • Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.
Position-Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Affairs

Positions assigned to Academic Affairs may also be responsible for:

  • Serving as the curricular liaison for the college with the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities; supporting the Vice President of Academic Affairs in academic/instructional issues related to accreditation.
  • Providing leadership in the development of the college’s strategies, methods and tools for assessment of student learning, program review, instructor qualifications, credit for prior learning, and other systems as needed
  • Providing leadership and direction to the college’s curriculum development process, transfer and articulation, and curricular innovation initiatives.
  • Providing leadership and direction to the PACTEC/Dual Credit office which supports regional high school/community college career technical education programs of study between the college and area school districts, and manages the college’s Dual Credit program.
  • Representing the college in statewide committees and work groups as assigned.
Instruction

Positions assigned to Campus Instruction may also be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs for the College.
  • Providing leadership to the oversight of District curriculum and delivery, including the implementation of systems improvements in educational programs and instructional delivery systems.
  • Providing leadership for facilities projects, including bond planning, implementation, and coordination, as well as planning for capital construction needs, special program projects, and classroom and office improvements.
  • Overseeing and participating in the recruiting, selection and evaluation of instructors.
Library

Positions assigned to Library may also be responsible for:

  • Directing the overall operations of the Library, including hours of operation.
  • Planning for services, allocation of resources, collections, and facilities for instruction technology program.
  • Monitoring the development of technologies and practices that will enhance College library services.
  • Implementing minimum performance and collection standards for library services.
  • Negotiating agreements with cooperating libraries and service district libraries.

  • Providing District and state leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating student service programs.
  • Overseeing operating units on campus that provide student support such as counseling, career planning and placement, tutoring and cooperative education.
  • Advocating for students and student service programs that promote retention and student success.
  • Administering student disciplinary procedures.
  • Assisting in securing grant and foundation funding for new and existing student service programs.
Student Affairs – Enrollment Management

Positions assigned to Enrollment Management may also be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership for strategic enrollment management and direct supervision of all related functional areas including Admissions & Recruitment, Enrollment Services, Registrar/Records, Financial Aid, Veterans Benefits, and Student Systems Support.
  • Working in close partnership with the college leadership as well as to significantly improve access, enrollment and equitable student success.
  • Overseeing the administration of strategic enrollment planning, enrollment related policy development and oversight, FERPA and records security, student records and financial aid processing, student information systems, customer relations management software platform, and analysis of enrollment related data.
  • Serving as the District’s liaison with internal and external parties on all matters related to student enrollment; developing and evaluating enrollment reporting mechanisms aligned with college enrollment, retention and success metrics; reporting data to pertinent stakeholders.
Student Success

Positions assigned to Student Success may also be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership for comprehensive student success strategies and direct supervision of all related functional areas including Academic Advising Program,? Counseling, Disability Services, International Student Services, Links (high school completion & college retention programs for underserved youth), and various student retention focused grant programs.
  • Working in close partnership with College leadership to significantly improve retention, completion and equitable student success outcomes.
  • Overseeing the administration of student success and retention strategy planning, student retention practice and policy development, academic advising model development and assessment, course placement system, personal/career counseling policy and practice, student success management software platform, and analysis of enrollment/retention related data.
  • Serving as the District’s liaison with internal and external parties on all matters related to persistence, retention and completion; developing and evaluating student retention and success metrics; aligning metrics with internal/external goals and mandates; collaborating with internal partners to develop reporting mechanisms to maximize program efficacy; reporting data to pertinent stakeholders.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. Frequent travel to other locations is required.?No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree and eight years progressively responsible college administration experience in student services, enrollment, or instruction.

Dean Academic Affairs, Dean Student Affairs: Master’s Degree and eight years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program/project management and/or program/project coordination. Four (4) years of higher education management/supervisor experience.
