clapping smiling graduatesThe Director of Pathways Guidance Innovation in the Academic & Career Pathways Guidance Division serves as the leader for innovation, implementation, assessment and continuous improvement of our integrated College-wide system of advising and career services. The position ensures that the advising and career services program and operational model supports student success within a guided pathways framework. The position oversees and executes staff training/development curriculum and delivery, a comprehensive technology platform and new program and services design. The incumbent is also responsible for comprehensive data collection/reporting, systems of assessment and quality assurance, and the integration of peer services. This role works closely with Academic & Career Pathways Guidance Division leadership, and management from Student Affairs to support holistic and interdependent guided pathways operations.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides strategic and operational leadership and accountability for advising and career services programming and systems including: staff training and development, comprehensive technology platforms (EAB Navigate, CIS, CSM Symplicity), new program and services design, data collection/reporting, and systems of assessment and quality assurance.
  2. Conducts ongoing needs assessment and gap analysis related to student advising and guidance excellence, advising model effectiveness, accountability for student outcomes, and support for advising and career staff recommends and implements modification of programming for continuous process and outcomes improvement.
  3. Ensures culturally responsive and inclusive program and services design and operations that center historically underserved and marginalized communities; accountable for flexible service delivery modalities that support access and equitable student outcomes.
  4. ?Fosters collaborative and productive partnerships across Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, administrative/systems services, and shared governance bodies in order to integrate planning and execution of holistic, proactive, and seamless systems of student support.
  5. Exercises leadership in achieving optimal organizational efficiency and effectiveness, including initiatives to improve processes and enhance systems and program outcomes.
  6. ?Ensures staff knowledge of, and compliance with, federal/state/local/College regulations, policies, and guidance related to advising, career and employment services.
  7. ?Partners closely with population-specific programs (e.g., TRIO, dual credit, ESOL,ABE) to integrate and align efforts to ensure consistent advising, career services, and student guidance within a guided pathways operating model.
  8. Oversees the development and implementation of peer advising/guidance programming.
  9. Oversees, analyzes, and makes budget decisions in alignment with College strategy, values and priorities. Forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies. Approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate.
  10. Manages and maintains multiple related technology tool licenses, contracts and vendor relationships. Analyzes and makes recommendations for the purchase of new technology solutions.
  11. Supervises managers, professional staff, classified staff, technical/support, and/or student staff. Reinforces staff’s development of PCC’s leadership competencies. Evaluates, supports, and provides guidance on professional development plans and goals for assigned areas of responsibility in accordance with practices, policies, and collective bargaining agreements. Hires, evaluates, trains, disciplines and recommends dismissal of staff as necessary.
  12. ?Implements and promotes advancement of the district’s equity goals and assists in the hiring of staff that reflects the diversity of the district. Enhances equity-minded talent management, including recruiting, hiring, and employee retention practices.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Work environment includes frequent disruptions and changes in priorities. Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. Frequent travel to other locations is required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree AND three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program/project management or program/project coordination. Two (2) years of management/supervisory experience.

OR Bachelor’s Degree AND five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program/project management or program/project coordination. Two (2) years of management/supervisory experience.

OR seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program/project management or program/project coordination. Two (2) years of management/supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
