PCC Students as Transfers in Academic Year 2023-24

6,869 students enrolled at PCC during the academic year 2022-23 and taking at least one credit class, attended another post-secondary institution in 2023-24.

• Sixty-three percent (4,315 headcount) of these students enrolled exclusively at a 4-year higher education institution.
• Thirty-seven percent (2,554 headcount) enrolled in a combination of higher education institutions: 21% in both 4-year and 2-year institutions and16% in 2-year institutions.

Exclusively 4-Year Institutional Transfers

The number of transfers (4,790) exceeds the student count (4,315) due to the fact that some students enroll in multiple institutions simultaneously.

While hundreds of different colleges and universities were transfer destinations, students who transferred exclusively to a 4-year institution, were most likely to enroll in at least one of the following 8 institutions:

• Portland State University, 1,808 students, 38% of transfers
• Oregon State University, 611 students, 13% of transfers
• University of Oregon, 317 students, 7% of transfers
• Oregon Health & Science University, 111 students, 2% of transfers
• Concordia University (COHORT/SCS), 100 students, 2% of transfers
• Oregon Institute of Technology, 95 students, 2% of transfers
• Pacific University, 91 students, <2% of transfers
• University of Portland, 86 students, <2% of transfers

4-year transfer group characteristics

• Nearly 30% of students transferred with a PCC degree or certificate.
• The average number of credit hours earned at PCC with a grade of A, B, or C before transferring was about 57.
• The majority (54%) had a ¡°transfer intended¡± major when enrolled at PCC.
• Among the group of students exclusively transferring to 4-year institutions, a higher proportion were White/Caucasian (54%), age 18-24 (58%), and were not Pell Grant recipients while enrolled at PCC (80%).

Other Transfer Groups Combined

During this same tracking time period, an additional 2,554 students (2,882 transfers) enrolled in a combination of 4-year and 2-year institutions.? No single 4-year and 2-year institution combination or 2-year college received a large percentage of these transfers and 61% of transfers were students concurrently enrolled at PCC.? Most frequent “combination” transfers included one of the following institutions:

• Mt. Hood Community College, 267 students, 9% of transfers
• Clackamas Community College, 134 students, 5% of transfers
• Chemeketa Community College, 73 students, 2.5% of transfers
• Linn-Benton Community College, 72 students, 2.5% of transfers
• Lane Community College, 62 students, 2% of transfers
• Clark College, 53 students, 2% of transfers
• Central Oregon Community College, 29 students, 1% of transfers
• Carrington College (Portland), 26 students, <1% of transfers

Other transfer group characteristics

• Sixteen percent of students had earned a PCC degree or certificate.
• The average number of credit hours earned at PCC with a grade of A, B, or C before transferring was about 47.
• Slightly over one-half (51%) had a ¡°transfer intended¡± major when enrolled at PCC.
• Within this group of students enrolling into a mix of higher education institutions, a higher proportion were White/Caucasian (50%) or Hispanic/Latino (20%) and age 18¨C24 (51%) or age 30¨C39 (20%).
