OL 107: ?Use D2L Brightspace Statistical Tools?: Tracking progress, measuring outcomes, & increasing student engagement
Description: “How engaged are your students?? What are they focusing on the most (or giving only cursory attention to?) Have you ever graded an assignment, discussion, or quiz and wondered: Why are the scores below average? Why is participation so low? Perhaps students did not access the necessary material; perhaps students found the content confusing and its learning objectives ambiguous. But how to know? D2L has several tools that will help you see behind the scenes in order to answer these questions.

Description: Many of us have been using Zoom during the shift to remote teaching and are familiar with its basic tools and features, like Breakout rooms, Chat, and others, but there may be tools we haven’t explored yet. OL 204: Create Interactive Activities for your D2L Course
Description: For online, remote, and hybrid faculty who have experience developing a course in D2L Brightspace. Recommended prerequisite: CUBS completion.
Instructors looking to add interactivity and more opportunities for self-assessment, practice, or active learning: come learn about H5P, an HTML-based content authoring tool that integrates with D2L Brightspace. This session will cover evaluating the tool for your own course design, going over examples from previous instructors and course developments, as well as hands-on building activities.

OL 205a: Using Hypothesis in D2L Brightspace
Description: Hypothesis is a social annotation tool you can use inside D2L Brightspace. Hypothesis trainer, Jessica, will discuss how collaborative annotation with Hypothesis can be used to make student reading visible, active, and social. She will also demonstrate how teachers are using annotation-powered reading to empower student writing, helping students develop these foundational academic skills. In addition to sharing pedagogical best practices for collaborative annotation, Jessica will demonstrate how Hypothesis can be used with course readings in D2L. After presenting, Jessica will lead participants in a discussion about how Hypothesis collaborative annotation can be used in their specific disciplines and with their specific teaching and learning objectives. Description: A two-hour workshop by Kevin Kelly (PCC Spring 2022 Book Club), in which participants follow the backward design model to (re)design an online assignment with equity in mind. Consists of: Assessment, Engagement, Content Review, and Instructions.

OL 303: Making Online/Remote Learning a More Welcoming and Inclusive Experience
Description: In this 2-hour workshop with Kevin Kelly, we will explore ways to make our courses more welcoming and inclusive – from syllabi to summative assessments. Together we will review overarching concepts, such as using inclusive language or incorporating diverse perspectives, before examining concrete examples in different aspects of the course experience: assessing learning, engaging students, reviewing content and more. We will discuss strategies that do not require a complete course redesign, focusing on ideas that you can put into practice right away.
