EEFS (ECE & HEC) Instructor Qualifications prior to April 2015
General Requirements
Masters degree in the subject area (listed below) or a Master¡¯s degree in a related area plus 30 quarter credits of coursework in the subject area AND three years recent, full-time equivalent, non-teaching work experience in the field (working with children, families and early childhood care and education professionals in programs serving young children and their families).
Instructors who meet the above requirement may teach all ECE and HEC courses, with the exception of ECE 234.
Degrees in the following areas should be regarded as Master¡¯s degrees in subject area:

This list may not be inclusive as there are other degree titles that may be appropriate for the subject and related areas. The Division Dean, in consultation with the Faculty Department chair will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of this list. The Department Chair can determine the applicability of a particular degree to teaching a specific Early Education & Family Studies course.

Master¡¯s degree in Early Intervention or Early Childhood Special Education AND three years recent, full-time, non teaching work experience in the field (as described above).

Associates degree in the Early Childhood Education

5 years recent work experience with children (birth through 5) and their parents

Plus 5 years of recent, full-time, non-teaching work experience in the field.
In Early Childhood Education, this refers to recent, full-time work experience with children, families, and ECE programs.
