Examples of Provisional Approval

(Note: the following are ?examples of conditions that might be used.? These examples are neither proscriptive or exhaustive)

For a SAC in which the minimum qualifications are:

Master degree (MA or MS) in SUBJECT AREA from an accredited college or university. Or, a graduate degree in a related field with successful completion of at least 30 quarter credits of graduate level SUBJECT AREA courses.

… possible provisional approval conditions might be:

Provisional approval may be given to individuals with graduate degree in a related field, provided that the instructor has taken at least 24 quarter credits of graduate level SUBJECT AREA courses? AND will complete the necessary course work to meet? or exceed 30 quarter credits of graduate level SUBJECT AREA? within the next 12 months.

OR

Provisional approval may be given to individuals with a MAT, provided that the instructor?has completed at least 30 quarter credits of graduate level? SUBJECT AREA courses ?AND is making acceptable progress (defined as X courses per academic year or ..? ) towards? Masters Degree in SUBJECT AREA or related area.

OR

There is an normally qualified and approved instructor who will serve as an active mentor for the instructor in question ?(this would ?need to be closely defined when written)

OR

There is an approved instructor who will serve as the instructor of record for the? course, taking responsibility for content, pedagogy, outcomes assessment and assignment? of grades AND assignment is restricted to XXX 121, 122 and 123.

OR

Provisional approval may be given to individuals lacking a degree in a Career and Technical Education Area provided that the instructor has

  • XX years of full-time experience in the career technical area taught?(OR holds a current license for? _____ )

AND

  • has completed the courses assigned as a student, achieving a grade of X or better.

Note: in the development of provisional approval criteria, please use “AND”? and “OR” statements between bullets carefully, so that collections of criteria, or alternative criteria are very clear.
