PORTLAND – They say humans are the only animals to shape our environment to suit ourselves. Fulfill that destiny in a six-week Interior Decorating series offered on Tuesday evenings from June 24 to Aug. 12 at Friendly House in Northwest Portland.
Learn practical principles you can use to create your own decorating style on a budget. Discover the use of color, window treatments, arrangement of furniture, lighting, wall coverings and more.
June 24 – What is Your Style? – What distinguishes one style from another? What are the differences between rustic, country, primitive? Learn the basic steps it takes to shape your home with your own personal style.
July 1 – Color in Your Home – Discover how color is constructed; what the most pleasing color combinations are; the effect color has on the size of a room, and how it influences your emotions. Bring a true red, blue and yellow crayon, as well as a folder or notebook.
July 8 – Arranging Your Space – Explore balance, line and composition in the placement of your furnishings and wall hangings to create a new look in your home. Bring scissors, glue stick and folder or notebook.
July 15 – Wall Coverings and Lighting – Investigate various wall treatments, and discover how they can change the atmosphere of your rooms. Also, learn new ways to light your home.
July 22 – Window Treatments – Become acquainted with various window dressings and solutions for difficult windows. A representative from Decorating Den will give a presentation and answer questions.
July 29 – Fabulous Floors – Join us for a field trip to Zakour’s Carpets, 13511 S.E. Division, where carpets, rugs, vinyl, tile, slate and hardwood will be shown and discussed.
Aug. 5 – Furniture and Fabrics – Discover Rainbow Furniture at 2685 N.E. Commercial Street, Salem, as we go through a showroom and factory where upholstered furniture is manufactured. Find out the pros and cons of fabrics that are on the market today, as well as wood furniture.
Aug. 12 – Personalize Your Home – Learn how to individualize your home through the use of accessories which can hide defects as well as enhance your rooms. Discover how to arrange them to your best advantage. Bring two unbreakable accessories from your home.
Tuition for the complete series is $50 or pay $10 for each individual session. Classes taught by Linnea Davenport from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friendly House is located at 1737 N.W. 26th Avenue in Portland. For more information, call PCC at 614-7308.
