Lunchtime Nourishment at Beaverton Library

Beaverton – Get some intellectual nourishment with your lunch in a free six-week Special Interest Lecture Series during Wednesday noon hours from June 25 to July 30 at Beaverton Library, 12500 S.W. Allen Boulevard.
Topics include:
June 25 – Making Friends With Your Gifts – Success at work and at home begins with appreciating your unique style and ways of doing things right. Speaker Tom Grier asks, “How is your friendship going?”
July 2 – Negotiating With Confidence – Learn techniques to improve your ability to get the best deal on car and home purchases. Wayne Pruener also discusses how to enhance your position in salary negotiations.
July 9 – Think Outside the Lines – Learn how creativity is a source of meaning in our lives and helps us solve problems. Jessica Morrell talks on how to cultivate the strength and curiosity of creative thinking.
July 16 – Organizing Time, Mind and Space – Adele Beck presents a 10-step system to help you organize your everyday routine for home and work. Pick up new ideas for scheduling your life and surroundings.
July 23 – Label Fables and Food Fibs – Find low fat, high fiber, and sugar-free foods in your market, including hands-on practice with real food packages. Taught by Janet Meirelles, a diabetes educator nurse.
July 30 – Your Inner Tyrant: Politics of Fear – Fear is the underlying emotion that keeps people helpless, abused and enslaved. Jennifer Anstey explains this situation, and adds some good news: No one has to live this way.

Be Part of a Slo-Mo Balancing Act
Beaverton – Increase your balance, energy and endurance in either of two eight-week in Tai Chi Chih courses, “Beginning” or “Continuing,” on Thursday mornings starting June 26 at the Pacific Rim Martial Arts Academy.
Instructor Tamara Johnson leads these classes on the ancient meditation art, consisting of 20 slow motion exercises that are performed individually, in a relaxed standing posture.
Tuition for either class is $20. Both classes meet on Thursdays through Aug. 14, the beginning class from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and the continuing class from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The Pacific Rim Martial Arts Academy is located at 4265-A Southwest Cedar Hills Boulevard (rear of building) in Beaverton.
