The Portland Community College Foundation has recently announced its scholarship recipients for the 1997-98 school year. This year, 155 scholarships totaling $128,000 have been awarded to returning students. Scholarships at PCC are awarded to students who have completed at least one term at the college, show talent and promise in their chosen field, and show financial need. Scholarship amounts vary from $200 to $3,000.

The selection committee was made up of six members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. According to Foundation Executive Director Jan Coulton, "The task was not an easy one. There were many qualified candidates – community college students are dedicated and determined to get an education and many also have great financial need. The committee was honored to select from such a worthy group."

PCC scholarships are awarded by the Foundation for specific professional or technical training programs, specific majors, as well as general scholarships. In addition to the 155 recently awarded, the Foundation expects to provide an additional 50 scholarships totaling $50,000 throughout the academic year.
