Get a Grip at PCC "First Wednesdays College Nights"
Photos and story by Mark Evertz
Simply inquiring about college can hinder the continuation of your education: Where do you start? But now it may be easier than you think. Learn about financial aid, career programs and more at the free "First Wednesday College Nights" held on each of the three Portland Community College campuses beginning Oct. 1.
The program is offered at PCC campus admissions offices, 6 – 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday evening of each month, October through July.
"It’s an open house. We spend a lot of time on financial aid, scholarships, and the various programs," said Dennis Bailey-Fougnier, admissions coordinator at Rock Creek Campus. "It’s just a great opportunity to come out to the campus. If they feel comfortable here they might enroll, and we try to help."
"It’s a friendly environment to ask some scary questions," added Lynn McBeth, admissions coordinator at Sylvania Campus, who noted that attendees include parents with high school students as well as working adults.
Topics also include how to get admitted, college costs, academic counseling, support services and campus life. And remember, not only is parking free from 5:30 -8 p.m., but PCC freebies will be given away at each First Wednesday College Nights gathering.
The three Portland Community College campus admissions offices are located at Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth; Rock Creek Campus, 17705 N.W. Springville Rd.; and Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. For more information, call 788-6252.
