Institute for Health Professionals' Anniversary Looks to New Millennium
Photos and story by Mark Evertz
Whether relying more heavily on computers or moving health care closer to home, tomorrow’s health professional will need ongoing training like that offered at Portland Community College’s Institute for Health Professionals for the last 10 years.
Who: PCC’s Institute for Health Professionals (IHP)
What: 10th Anniversary Celebration – Free Workshops followed by an Open House Reception
Where: PCC’s Central Portland Workforce Training Center (across from OMSI)
When: Thursday, Oct. 2
1:30 to 4:30 p.m. – Workshops on Health Care Trends in the New Millennium
4:30 to 6 p.m. – Open House Reception, speakers include PCC President Dr. Dan Moriarty
Background: "It’s kind of a thank you to everyone that’s participated in the program," said Vicki Glenzer, marketing coordinator for IHP. But the gathering will also allow a look forward. "Whereas they used to do everything by hand, health care is all computerized now," said Glenzer. Yet even with the increased reliance on computers, she notes, "Things are moving from hospital-based to clinic- and home-based."
